Battlefield V FIRESTORM!
Firestorm is a new battle royale game mode in Battlefield 5 created by Criterion Games. For those who like the battle royale game type, here are some comparisons with other battle royale games.
You start off by doing a classic plane jump onto the map, each person controlling their own jump, unlike Apex Legends’ group jump. From then on, the game handles just like normal Battlefield 5.
Tanks can be a bit broken in the game mode honestly. If a tank spots you and your team, and you don’t have any anti-vehicle items (panzerfaust, anti-tank grenade, etc) then you RUN. You can prevent people from getting tanks if you’re fast enough though. If you’re nearby and someone is opening a tank bunker, there will be an audible siren. You have two options, flee, or rush in for the squad wipe. If you fail to stop them and the tank or anything else kills you, you still have a chance. After being killed, you enter last stand mode. After either pulling out a pistol, if you have one, or a knife, you can slightly defend yourself and bleed out while you wait for your team to revive you.
The game sounds are engaging. From directional gunfire and vehicles, to the dreaded sound of an incoming JB-2 rocket, it keeps players on alert. Character running sounds and screams are a good way to locate close enemies; pay attention to that. It’s also best to stay away from the fiery inferno of the zone wall. You will have basically no personal awareness if you are next to it.
One thing Firestorm has done that most other battle royale games have not, is the zone wall mechanic. If you are out of the zone in Firestorm, you can’t see or hear JACK! This prevents people from initializing combat outside of the zone.
The looting system is similar to Fortnite. All weapons and gadgets are divided into grades, Basic, Rare, and Epic. The higher the weapon level, the better the attachments and perks will be. As every other battle royale game, the guns and gadgets are scattered everywhere, from just on the ground to crates you open.
After killing an enemy, their loot splatters everywhere on the ground. This actually makes it pretty difficult to quickly sort through everything and get what you need, as items will overlap each other.
The gadgets in the game are pretty cool in my opinion. From calling in a vehicle drop and getting a tractor, to calling in that JB-2 rocket and ruining someone’s match, there is a little bit of everything.
The most disappointing thing about Firestorm is the lackluster victory screen. You can be in the final firefight, win, and not even know it. Comparing it’s winning congratulations with other games, it’s a bit of a let down.
Overall,Firestorm is a fun game. It’s got smooth gameplay, sounds amazing, and the mechanics are decent. It’s the kind of game that you just play with your friends to have fun, and if you win, then cool, if not, then oh well.
